Hello WOPC Families!

We have had such a wonderful couple of months at West Oakville Preschool Centre thanks to the help of our wonderful summer student staff! Each and every student has played such an important role in working to make our Centre a warm and welcoming environment. The students have worked very hard caring for the children and beautifying our Centre by creating amazing bulletin board displays throughout the Centre, and assisting with the care and clean up of our playground gardens and storage areas. They have also put their technology skills to good use in creating wonderful slideshows for our graduating children and creating flyers for our Playground Garden initiative.

On Wednesday July 19th, we had the privilege of having Pam Damoff, the MP of Oakville, visit our Centre to see all the accomplishments the students have made during their stay here with us. She was very impressed with a special slideshow made just for her benefit by our students. The Canada Summer Jobs Program was initiated by the Federal Government of Canada with the assistance of Pam Damoff. We are so truly grateful for this initiative that not only helps students with jobs to pay for their schooling, but also for the tremendous amount of help and support we receive from them during their time here. Our Centre hosted the highest number of summer jobs in our area!! We hope to take advantage of this amazing program on a yearly basis!!

In other news, we will be hiring a number of new supply staff members in the coming months to help us out once the students have gone back to school. Rest assured, we are being very particular in our selection of eligible staff members for this position. All of our supply staff will have a valid police check, First aid/CPR training and be fully vaccinated in order to be employed with us. Once we have completed the hiring process you can stay tuned to the website to view the bios of all of our staff members.

In the coming months we will be receiving funding from the Halton Region to assist with children with complex needs. We are going to be investing in special “sensory” toys and comforting materials for our classrooms to promote a warm and welcoming environment for all of our children. This funding will go a long way in helping each child transition to their new classrooms come September. We hope to be receiving more funding in the future to replace our outdoor shed in the near future as well!
